Why do I disrespect religious belief?
1. Encourages Self Centered Thoughts - "God has a plan just for me".
2. The promise of a complete set of supernatural answers discourages scientific progress. Interaction between religion and science creates hostility.
3. Perfectionism fosters bitterness because of the impossibility of success.
4. Tribalism - The view that divides believers vs. non-believers, instead of humanity working together
5. Giving theology power of control - example the "second coming" is both inevitable and glorious so climate change must be a part of "the plan" and efforts to address it both inconvenient and counterproductive.
6. The promise of life eternal takes away the fear of death. The main reason we have religion is this erroneous notion that man gain eternal life.
7. Faith - by definition the resolute belief in assertions without credible supporting evidence, encourages sloppy thinking and usually leads to manipulation.
8. Mary was a virgin...supernatural thinking
9. Reserving to God sole authority to dispense life and death.
10. The assumption that man needs religion in order to be good. We are born with a conscience.
